An Innovative Multilocus Approach to Better Identification
The Abbott PLEX-ID assays provide multiple primer pairs, targeting conserved regions that flank variable regions, of highly conserved genes in a 96-well plate. This multilocus approach provides the ability to distinguish between closely related species as well as single nucleotide polymorphisms or mutations that occur in the regions analyzed. If unknown organisms with novel base compositions are detected, these are reported with reference to the closest known species in the database.
